- Got Peep to Level 49
- Upgraded from melonDS 0.7.3 to 0.9.5. WiFi with Kaeru DNS and Wiimmfi now works.
- Battle in Kona mystery gift received from "WFC".
- Apparently it's a Crobat! OT/TID is WORLD10/08150 and it has a Classic Ribbon.
- Moves are Heat Wave, Air Slash, Super Fang, Sludge Bomb.
Ability is Inner Focus and held item is a Life Orb.
- Card: "Thanks for coming to the 2010 Pokemon World Championships!
Be sure to save your game after you pick up the Pokemon at a Poke Mart."
> Received: CROBAT [M] (WFC Mystery Gift)
- Tried using an Action Replay code to get a Gamestop event Celebi. It worked flawlessly.
> Magic: CELEBI [GAMESTP/02271] (Level 50)
- Got a call from the Daycare Man. There's an egg to pick up.
- Got the egg and took back Codex.
- I know where to go to trigger the event.
Walked south from the Daycare Center to go to Ilex.
- This was a good decision,
as Cameron was waiting just outside the North connector to take a picture.
- Triggered event at the shrine, was transported away.
- Lyra said "CELEBI can travel through time using its mystic power called Time Travel!"
Seems like a good name for that, I would think.
- Fought Giovanni. Started with Celebi using Nasty Plot and the Nidoking getting a crit with Shadow Claw. Recorded the rest.
- Had an embarrasing moment where I somehow managed to forget that Ghost types don't affect Normal types.
Other than that, I think the fight went well.
I should have probably avoided using Peep to make it more of a challenge.
- 40:04; Peep is at Level 50. Starting on Ramelia.
- She's not particularly strong against all the rock-types in the Victory Road cave.
Switching to Super! and giving Ramelia the XP share for now.
- Apparently, if you battle using two Pokemon and one of them is holding the XP share,
they get 3/4 of the earned experience,
as they get the half from the XP share and one half of the rest given to the 'mons that actually fight.
I didn't know how it would handle that.
- Decided leading with Super! and switching in Ramelia for Golbat encounters was the way to go.
- Got Super! and Ramelia to Level 46 and due to both of them needing healing,
the XP share was given to Gemini and Gorb was set to lead.
- Levels are now: Peep (50), Super! (47), Ramelia (46), Gorb (46), Gemini (44)
Three and a half hours chalked up today on mostly grinding.
Even though I only managed to get Peep up to Level 50 today,
solid progress was made on all four of the other party members that aren't Sync III.
A combined total of 21 levels were gained.
My goal now is to get Super! to Lv.50 and to get the other three up to 48.
It should be an okay place for them to be and it will save a lot of time.
With this laid out, I'll need to grind out a total of 11 more levels.
I'm not sure why I'm actually doing this legitimately instead of hacking in Rare Candies.
I've already modified the save with an editor and I just used an Action Replay code today.
I guess I'm keeping this as close to legit as possible without completely losing my mind or skipping impossible things.
Speaking of, that Celebi event.
I knew it existed and had some idea of how it played out,
but figured it wasn't really something to look into.
My friend Aar encouraged me to actually try it out and sent me a link to some info on making it happen.
I had to upgrade my "DS", but I needed to do that anyway in order to get the online working.
This is the part where I reveal that I always intended to check out the online for the game,
as the Wiimmfi replacement for the WFC services enables that to still work.
Getting a mystery gift from WFC was my way of confirming that the service was working and that it was doing so with SoulSilver.
Seeing a Pokemon received as a mystery gift from a replacement for a service that went offline almost ten years ago and a Pokemon from an event long since passed both get received in my far newer save was incredible.
I would say the Wi-Fi Pokemon was more impressive,
but being able to finally see that Celebi event and do the Giovanni fight makes it a tie in my mind.
This night could have easily been nothing but uneventful grinding,
but I got to experience some special things that I would have missed out on.
I think the only time I ever got event Pokemon were for Sword,
mostly because I was more aware of them happening.
The only one I can actually think of were a bunch of Pikachus with the special Ash hats.
I'll need to load that save to see if I can find more info about them.
I checked after writing this and it turns out they were from September and October of 2020.
