- Time to grind.
- Flew back to Goldenrod and put Sync III and Codex in the Daycare Center.
- Thanks to internet searching, went to Route 32 and got a Heart Scale.
- Went to Victory Road to grind for experience.
- Caught a Rhyhorn for admittedly no particular reason.
> Caught: CHARGER [M]
- Levels are now: Peep (47), Super! (43), Gemini (41), Gorb (41), Ramelia (40).
I did some thinking and came up with a plan that I figured was solid for legitimately getting my whole team to at least Level 50.
Since he was at Level 49, I put Sync III in the Daycare to get levels from that without me needing to put in active effort to do so.
He should still be able to have that classic status of being the overleveled starter.
Honestly, I'm not sure why I'm not just doing that.
It's what worked for me in my original run and is apparently so common that memes get made about it.
I saw one "Gen 2 starter pack" meme that was just an overleveled starter (pictured was a Typhlosion),
an Ampharos ("sheep"), and a Water Pokemon (pictured was the shiny Gyarados).
I pretty much have all of those.
Looking back at it, I think it's actually really funny that I didn't decide to use a 'mon from the Ampharos line in my original playthrough.
At least, I don't remember using one.
Anyway, back to the strategy.
Thanks to having the XP share and Sync III being in the Daycare and getting XP that way,
I can focus on leveling up Peep, Ramelia, and Super!,
while Gorb and Gemini can get XP from the share.
This reduces the amount of work I need to put in,
but doesn't really cut the work in half because the XP earned from battles is just being distributed differently.
It would be faster for me to take the XP share, level just Peep and Super!,
then try to bash my way through the Kanto gyms with a lopsided party,
but I want to try not doing it like that.
Peep is close to 50, but the rest are going to take a lot more work.
I saw a video talking about how stupid the level fluctuations through the Gen 2 games are.
It seemed to corroborate what I saw on Serebii,
with low to mid 50's being about right for the seven Kanto gym battles that aren't Blue.
I already knew Red was the "final boss" of the game,
but I didn't know Blue was one of the gym leaders.
Guess I ruined the surprise for myself.
Luckily, I wasn't super invested in the story,
especially now that the Johto part of the game is over.
Blue should be a fair step up from the rest,
then Red is just really strong for no good reason.
That would require an insane amount of grinding,
but due to the previously mentioned wanting to get this finished at some point,
I have a plan to get around this. She's in Box 10.
