- Merry Christmas, bitches. Let's get this bread.
- 32:56, Gemini is now at Level 40 thanks to a lot of grinding just south of the Safari Zone Entrance.
- Flew to Blackthorn and got loaded up on healing items.
- Got Super! to Level 40 just south of the city.
- Grinded Peep from Level 40 to 42 south of the entrance to the Elite Four.
- Got Gorb from the Daycare Center. Level increased by one to now be at 32.
- At Level 33, Gorb now knows Shadow Ball instead of Night Shade.
- Through more grinding, Gorb is now at Level 35.
- 33:43, going to actually attempt the Elite Four now. Hoping there's a PC because I flew there with Zuma, leaving Gorb in the box.
- Oh shit apparently there's some Victory Road thing I gotta do first.
- Didn't know there would be a rival battle at the end of it.
- Peep one-shot the Feraligatr with Discharge,
one-shot the Haunter with Discharge after being hit with Confuse Ray,
then hurt herself in confusion once before breaking through to one-shot the Kadabra with Signal Beam.
- Sync III one-shot the Magneton at the very end and got the Sneasel and Golbat earlier in the fight.
He also leveled up.
- As I was one step away from the tunnel exit, a wild encounter with a Ursaring happened.
- Okay, 34:19 will be me actually going through the door.
- Hey look, a Pokemon Center and a small shop right at the entrance.
- Healed up and got Gorb from the box.
- Talked to the guy who gives the warning before you go in. He stepped aside.
- Let's do this.
- Video recordings were used so I could have everything recorded and so I don't have to take notes during the E4 battles.
- Fainted during Will fight: Ramelia, Gorb
- Fainted during Koga fight: Peep, Sync III, Super!
- Fainted during Bruno fight: Super!
- Fainted during Karen fight: Gorb, Peep, Sync III
- Sync III finished: Will's first Xatu, Jynx; Koga's Ariados, Venomoth, Muk; Bruno's Hitmontop, Machamp, Hitmonchan; Karen's Umbreon
- Peep finished: Will's Slowbro, second Xatu; Karen's Gengar
- Super! finished: Koga's Forretress; Bruno's Onix, Hitmonlee; Karen's Houndoom
- Gemini finished: Koga's Crobat; Karen's Vileplume, Murkrow
- Gorb finished: Will's Exeggutor
I got through the first four in the Elite Four with some difficulty,
but I got them all on the first try.
Then I got to Lance and couldn't beat him.
I think it's kind of weird that I was able to get as far as I did only to have Lance be at a significantly stronger state than the four trainers before him.
I don't have any Ice-type Pokemon,
I can't teach any of the Pokemon in my party one of the Ice-type TMs I have on hand,
and the way I see it, there's no way for me to actually win the fight without losing,
getting kicked out, grinding more,
then doing it all over again after getting more levels and probably an Ice-type Pokemon to actually counter the Dragons.
On my best attempt, I was able to take out the Gyarados,
first Dragonite (Lv. 50, Outrage), Aerodactyl,
and the second Dragonite (Lv. 49, Dragon Rush).
I could get that far, but taking out two more Dragonites with my party in the state it's in is too tall an order.
Looking back at the footage and what I did to train up for the battles,
I really should have put more time into training up Ramelia.
She can hit hard and has solid Normal-type moves that would be helpful for Lance,
but aren't because the level disparity is too great and Lance's Dragonites are tanks.
Additionally, she fainted once in the first battle and was the only party member to not finish off an opposing Pokemon.
Then again, almost half of said opponents were taken out by Sync III.
I focused on trying to get my lower level party members closer to the rest,
but I should have added a few extra to Peep and Ramelia...
which would then necessitate bringing Super!, Gorb, and Gemini up to those levels.
This could have been avoided if I had just looked up what I was going up against before going into it.
I've already put so much time into this,
and what I've managed to pull together is almost enough for this.
It should have been enough for this.
Lance's Dragonites have determined that I should go back and just do even more grinding.
Maybe pick up an Ice-type move or Pokemon while I'm at it.
However, I'd like to actually finish this playthrough before the heat death of the universe.
Additionally, there's no particular restriction that says I must do this entirely by the book.
My save was just after I beat Karen and healed up.
I've made a backup of that save.
The copy that will be played on was brought into a save editor called PKHeX.
With it, I can do any number of things to bend things as far in my favor as I'd like.
I already had the idea for what I was going to do.
Once I had it, I don't think there was any possibility of me not making it happen.
I've phoned in a few old friends of mine,
one of which will be helping me with the Lance fight.
I'm excited to see how this goes.
