December 21st: All Talk

It's been a long time since I picked up the save. Part of that was due to being burned out on playing it, but I think it was mostly being busy with a new job I picked up that had stupid travel requirements that I didn't know about ahead of time. I've actually wanted to pick up the game again for several weeks at this point and tonight is when I plan to do that. I re-read all of my journaling that I did for my progress from October before starting this, which I actually found to be helpful. Something about having that log of how much progress I made helps me to remember what happened and motivate me to keep going. I also spotted some spelling mistakes. Might even go back and fix them at some point.

I remember not finishing my 2019 save because life got in the way. Maybe I never finished my 2010 save for a similar reason, although with how young I was then, I probably just got bored and moved on. With how much grinding I felt like I needed to do, I may have also put it down because it hit the point where it wasn't fun anymore. As stated in the part for the first day, I intend to actually finish this game with this save, but something tells me that won't happen within the next month. Probably not within the next two or three months. I guess it just depends on how much time I feel like I can throw at this. Plus, there's plenty of Halo, Counter-Strike, and Gears of War to be played. If this was still 2010, the most up-to-date entries would be Reach (released later in 2010), Source, and 2. Now, it would be Infinite, the confusingly named CS2, and 5. And for Pokemon, the most recent entries would be Scarlet and Violet. 13 years is a long time.

Despite the number of iterations of it that have dropped over the years, clearing out the Elite Four and reaching the other half of this game would be my first time actually playing the Kanto region. I never had the original Red/Blue/Yellow or FireRed/LeafGreen, and whatever versions came after that would have been too late for me to have really cared that much. Kanto-region Pokemon games aren't something I've ever put much thought towards or had much interest in playing. Maybe I should pick one of the original ones and give it a try to see how old it feels in comparison.

I guess while I'm on the subject, there's also Ruby and Sapphire. I remember playing a little bit of those at some school latchkey thing when I was still in the elementary grades. Those would have actually been the first exposure to playing Pokemon that I remembered. Despite having a really good impression of those, I never got around to even starting a save and making real progress in one of those games. Technically, Emerald also exists, but some part of me would prefer to play Sapphire instead. Yeah, it should be "Ruby/Sapphire" but I'm not going to lie to myself and pretend like the choice will come down to anything other than picking Sapphire because it's the blue one.

Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum were the actual mainline games of Generation 4, which I will eventually get around to playing. Given how long it's taking me to get through SoulSilver, I don't think I'll be playing any other Pokemon game anytime soon. I also have no real drive to explore any of the games from Generations 5, 6, and 7. Scarlet and Violet looked like they were actually interesting games buried under a mountain of technical issues, so those might be a "take it or leave it" kind of thing. I guess I was never really the biggest fan of the series, especially after I got older.
